Whew! I have been so busy following all my new year's resolutions I haven't had time to post!
Anyway, I was just watching Ace of Cakes on the Food Network. I love that show! Duff would be such a fun boss. I always admire (and am insanely jealous of) people who make a living doing something they have a true passion for.
So I have decided to share some of my own personal cake creations:
Bella's Garden
Sorry, no photo for this one. Since the only pictures I have were taken with my old-school film camera, I'd have to first of all find one, then scan it, etc. and I am far too lazy for that right now. It was a really cute cake, though. I made it for her first birthday. It was a vegetable garden, complete with dirt, a little sign saying "Bella's Garden" and little rows of vegetables made from marzipan.
Froggie Cake
For Bella's second birthday I made her a froggie cake. When she was about 8 months old, she became attached to this little furry froggie blanket (she's still attached). I used fondant instead of marzipan, and decided I liked it better. You can get it smoother.
Spongebob Squarepants
When Bella turned 3, I made her a Spongebob cake. When I finished I decided that he would be sans arms since I was out of room, and then realized that one of his eyelashes had made a run for it.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
For Rowan's first birthday I chose The Very Hungry Caterpillar for the theme of the cake, after the children's book. I learned a huge lesson with this cake: Take the official cake photo right when you finish it. I had worked on this cake for several hours, then after I had cut into it and had served several pieces I remembered I hadn't taken a picture. I almost cried.
This blog chronicles my life as a wife, mom, dental hygienist, photographer, and smart aleck. I make my home in Washington State. My favorite things are laughing, eating good food, taking pictures, cake decorating, blogging, and serving dental missions in third world countries. I stick my foot in my mouth so often we'll go ahead and call that a favorite hobby, too. I like to think of my blog readers as friends I invite into my home. So welcome. Come on in.
Sweet Cakes. I especially love froggy. How is little, bald froggy?
ReplyDeleteMMMMM, I enjoyed much of the mutilated caterpillar cake! I also remember the horror of you realizing that it had been cut and seperated before the photo! AHHH
